Ralph
Ralph, is the elected leader of the boys. In the Lord of Psychology he represents the ego, constantly caught in the middle of dispute between Piggy and Jack. He is concerned with mainly getting off the island, he is very strict about the signal fire and gets extremely angry with Jack when he lets it out to go hunting. Instead of taking advantage of the boys fear of the beast, he calmly maintains there is no beats until they see it. He is described as having fair (light) hair, and being one of the taller boys.
Piggy is the Superego, he constantly tries to controls Jack's behavior and maintain the boy's first system of order. He is the connection with the adult world, and he is always coming up to Ralph with useless ideas about sundials and smoke and such. Piggy thinks logically and scientifically. He wears glasses which symbols scientific endeavor. The boys use these to start the fire on the mountains, which burns part of the jungle. Piggy is a lot fatter then any of the other boys, his hair remains short and he has a case of asthma.
Simon is one of the boys who sticks with Ralph after Jack runs off. He prefers being alone to the constant clamor of the boys, so he often sneaks off to a secluded spot in the jungle. He tries to dispel the fears of the littleuns, by telling everyone to go up to the mountain to see there is no beast. The littleuns look up to Simon and he often helps then with picking fruit and such. Simon has darker hair and tan skin.
Jack, represents the Id he is often impulsive and craves power above all the boys. He is leader of the hunters and he devotes all of his attention to killing his first pig. He also doesn’t much care about being rescued and treats the signal fire contemptuously. He runs off in chapter eight and form his own tribe. Jack ha red hair and freckles, he is one of the oldest boys.
